ISIS has claimed responsibility for today’s shooting in Paris that left one police officer dead and two other individuals seriously injured, reports The Independent.

The outlet states that ISIS claims its attacker – who had previously been flagged as an extremist – originated from Belgium.

This news appears to clear up confusion concerning the motive of today’s shooting. Previous reports had suggested it might have been part of an armed robbery attempt.

France’s interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet, speaking earlier today, said a robbery did take place at the time of the shooting. At the time, Brandet said it was not clear if the two incidents were linked.

According to the BBC, Brandet also stated that the officers who were shot “were deliberately targeted.”

Hours ago, U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the attack, stating it looked like “another” terrorist incident.

Outlets like CBN called Trump’s diagnosis into question at that time, given that French authorities had not yet identified a motive for the attack.
